Moving to Chicago
14 11 2006It’s official…well at least the paperwork says it’s official…the family is moving to Chicago. We have our house up for sale here in Northern Kentucky and I’ll be starting my new job with Neohapsis December 4th.
This was totally volunteer and I’m looking at this as a very good thing. Chicago is a much better market than Cincinnati, should I want to continue and grow in my career of Information Security. It’s one of those markets that if I don’t like what I’m doing in the future I can pretty easily find another job…maybe not the perfect job…but a job none the less.
Chicago is also a better base for storm chasing than Cincinnati, and I will be living within a short drive (30min at most?) of the College of DuPage which has an active meteorological department and storm chasing group.
And since this isn’t all about me…my wife likes the Chicago area for what it has to offer as a region/city, the school are very good generally and many of the neighborhoods where we will be looking to live are in the best in the country.
The only real downside I can see is the harsher winters. Snow doesn’t scare me so I have no issues moving further north, but it does impact my other hobby of backyard farming a little bit. I’ll have a shorter growing season by a few days and more severe weather (generally).
Here’s to hoping the current house sells soon!
