If you’ve followed along for the past few years, you know that I’ve not had much luck with starting my own seeds indoors. After some careful thinking, I’m almost positive the reason I have not done a good job is that I spend so much time away from home (work, vacation, etc) that watering is the major problem. Either too much or too little. I have the grow lights on a timer so that takes care of itself.
So I’ve decided to try a new seed starting product that supposedly resolves the water issue. It uses a self watering system to keep the seeds optimally watered. It’s called the “APS” and I have both the small block size and the larger size for potting on or starting things like tomatoes. We’ll see how it goes!
The girls and I started Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Basil and Oregano seeds. It’s still way early, but I couldn’t help myself!

Just to let you know. Menards has a self watering system by planters pride for under $5.00
28 – 2 1/2″ pots in a self watering tray. I am using them for transplants from the Park Seed Bio-Seed tubes…but they might work for you to start seeds too.
Also…Where did you get your row cover material? I never got around to cutting up that piece you loaned me so i am looking to buy some to use on the raised beds this spring.
The row cover I got off the internet at some random farm supply company. A google search will turn up several vendors of “bug netting” or “row cover” fabric. I can’t recall where I bought what I have now.
I love the APS system as well. I’m gone at least 3 days a week as a flight attendant and I couldn’t start seeds without the APS to do my watering when I’m gone.
