Storm Chase Vacation 2009 – Day 7

10:20am – On the road from Overland Park, KS to Newton, KS playing along nice well-defined outflow boundary

1:30pm – Stopped in Wichita, KS at Hog Wold BBQ for lunch.

2:10pm – Heading to Pratt, KS. MCS is screwing up the storm setup.

3:30pm – Gas stop in Pratt. Paul us totally confused as are Supper Dave and Matt. Paul is getting frustrated.

4:00pm – Driving through Greensburg, KS. New target is Liberal, KS. Outflow from MCS seems to be converging in an are of suspected (spc meso analysis) high CAPE and little cap. Texas a possibilty? Sheesh.

4:30pm – Storm just popped north of Liberal. Not sure what it will do when it hits the MCS OFB. We are going to cut south to Beaver.

5:00pm – Check that. on to Liberal!

5:25pm – Storm splitting north of Liberal. Cutting the difference into Liberal for gas.

5:45pm – Quick gas stop in Liberal and then SE out of the storm merge.

6:15pm – Nice little wallcloud/hangydownything. Moving south for new position.

7:00pm – Staying in Borger, TX tonight. Heading out of Parryington sucking the most out of this storm as we can. Ewww look HP6 in that theater.

7:15pm – Storm has intensified. NWS just called Paul for a visual confirmation on the storm. (SN works!) Nothing to report. They were concerned about inflow notch on radar.

7:50pm – SN report sent in. Very pretty storm, but no tornado potential unless nature throws a curveball.

8:15pm – Flew through Canadian, TX for the new south storm. Donuts and 3″ hail on radar. Trying to calc if can out run the hail and get around it.

8:40pm – All done for the day. Cluster/MCS developing and it’s getting late. Maybe some night lightning/structure pics.

10:20pm – Eating pizza at the hotel. No night picture options.
