Storm Chase Vacation 2009 – Day 8

10:45am – Target is Dalhart, TX for lunch. Storms should fire in the North West panhandle later in the day. This will be our last day if chasing.

12:00pm – Woohooo!! SPC update with TOR probs for our area. 2 or 3clock initiation probably.

1:45pm – Hanging out in Dalhart after lunch. Probably heading to Guymon but not sure. Little CU’s going up but initiation has stalled, but that’s good for us.

2:00pm – Latest surface map has a dry area on the south central CO border with better moisture south and north. We are staying south on sort of a triple point. Maybe step toes across into NM.

2:15pm – hahaha Paul is going to do NM just because we can. New target of Clayton, NM. No real reason.

2:25pm – Storms firing ahead. Screw NM, in chase mode.

3:00pm – Cool storm!

3:45pm – Gilbert broke AllisonHouse. Have to boot up and fix the main radar server(s). Rule #1…only Tyler does reboots and kernel upgrades.

4:20pm – One server up. One to go. Paul has bailed on our first storm since going further south puts us in limited roads in the canyon lands of west Texas. Moving to new NE storm.

5:00pm – On the new storm. Will be staying in Amarillo tonight.

5:45pm – Most shear Ive ever seen

5:50pm – Storm collapsed. Shifting to try and catch the southern storm. Vega is new target.

6:15pm – Amarillo canceled. Following storm south to Cagels for dinner and lightning. Will stay in Lubbuck somewhere probably.

7:45pm – Chase vacation is brought to a close in Sudan, TX. Much fun was had by all! Be back next year…I hope.

450 miles traveled

Last minute note…the Lubbock Inn is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in, and I’ve traveled all over the world.
