9:30am – Headed to SPC
11:30am – Great tour by Rick Smith of the Norman NWS/WFO. Also got a quick look at the OK mesonet gear thanks to Mike Wolfinbarger. Now to drop south into TX. Probably stockyards tonight.
12:50pm – Lunch stop at the border. Dave Mayhew dropped in to say hi. Nothing like seeing once again how crappy my pictures are compared to a pro. Argh!
4:00pm – Rolled into the Stockyards. Need to take one of the vans to the Ford dealer for a looksee at the tires on van 1. Hey look… a cattle drive!
…rest of the evening below…
- Had dinner at H3 Ranch in the historical Stockyard area. Excellent steak. Tried a Texas Tequila (Republic)..not bad.
- Went over to a locals bar and sat and watched the Blackhawk’s win. I find I actually like watching hockey. One of the few sports I did not play as a kid.
- Moved bars to one with a live country band. They were pretty good for a Monday night gig. Got back to the hotel about 1am.
Tomorrow is a down day with Van 1 in the shop so I’ll be doing some tourist shopping…on my list:
- an old western style duster…I’ve always wanted one
- a new leather belt….I’ve been wearing the same leather belt 365 days a year for the past 8 years
- a cool belt buckle if I can find one
- a “cute” cowgirl shirt with pearl type buttons for Melissa (Going to get help from one of the girls on the trip)
- some tie-on spurs for the girls to wear with their cowboy boots
