First off...what are you looking to buy and how far north of the city? If it's plants and you're not looking for anything exotic then the cheapest place will be one of the big box stores like Lowes, Menards, Home Depot. If you don't like that option then you'll have to pay more for what you buy. I have not found a low cost/high quality garden store in the area.

I know of one garden center north of the city that comes to me very well recommended...

Meinke’s Garden Center on Touhy Ave. in Niles, IL

Help! I want to help my daughter plant her garden this spring. She lives North of the city and I would like to find a good garden center that does not charge and arm and a leg! Last year I was shocked by the prices. Any recommendations?

Hi! I just saw your site. I live in Glendale Heights, so we're practically neighbors. Love the raised beds! I am pretty much garden-obsessed, though I currently live in a condo with just a small patio to work with. I do have a community garden plot, though!
